How to choose a content-planning tool
The right choice isn't about the longest feature list, it's about the criteria that hold up in your day-to-day.

Reach & reliability
First: does the tool support the platforms and formats you use today, and might use tomorrow? Reels, carousels, stories, and text posts all have different requirements. A tool that only handles simple images won't get you far with video. Just as important: do posts actually go live? That sounds obvious, but it isn't. Broken connections, expired tokens, or media errors can cause a post to fail silently, and you might not notice for days. Look for tools that run a pre-publish check: are the media files there, is the connection active, are platform limits respected?
Collaboration & data sovereignty
Working alone, collaboration is a non-issue. The moment a second person joins, a freelancer, an assistant, an agency, you need roles, draft statuses, and an approval step before anything goes live. It prevents half-finished posts from slipping through and cuts down on rework. Alongside that: where does your data live? For many businesses and self-employed professionals, EU or German hosting matters, for GDPR reasons, data processing agreements, and the general discomfort of not knowing where client data ends up. Ask before you sign: is a DPA available and where are the servers?
No lock-in & fair pricing
Can you export your data at any time, posts, ideas, connections, in a format you can actually use elsewhere? Tools without an export option have a structural interest in keeping you around. That's not trust; that's dependency. On pricing: is there a clear page listing all plans? Are credits, tokens, or add-ons stacked on top that quietly double the monthly cost? And is the free tier useful enough for a real evaluation, or is it so stripped down it only serves as advertising?
How we handle this at Impulio
Platforms & reliability
Impulio supports 10 platforms with a pre-publish check that verifies media, connection status, and platform limits. Posts that would fail silently get flagged before they go out, with a clear note on what needs fixing.
Hosting in Germany & data export
Servers are in Germany. GDPR compliance and data processing agreements are standard, not an add-on. You can export your data at any time, no lock-in, no 'please contact support'.
Honest pricing, and what Impulio is not for
One pricing page, all plans in the open, no hidden credits. The free tier is enough for a genuine trial. And to be clear: Impulio is built for planning and reliable publishing, it's not a social listening tool and not a CRM. If you need to monitor mentions or manage customer relationships, you'll need dedicated software for that.
FAQ
Do I even need a tool?
With one account and occasional posting, a notes app or spreadsheet often does the job. Once you're posting regularly across multiple platforms, a proper tool saves meaningful time, especially for planning and tracking what's already been published.
What should I look for regarding privacy?
Ask about the hosting location, a data processing agreement (DPA), and whether you can export your data. In sensitive sectors like healthcare or public administration, an EU server location is often not optional, it's a requirement.
How do I spot hidden costs?
Check whether limits are clearly stated, accounts, posts per month, team seats. Credits or tokens that apply to specific actions can quickly double the monthly price. If you don't need a calculator to figure out what you'll actually pay, that's a good sign.
